Jamming to the beat of Afrobeat
African music is very rich and diverse with each region having its own musical genres and musical styles. Over the years, one of those genres has become one of the most popular African music genres today; that genre being Afrobeat. Some of the top artists of the genre include WizKid, Davido, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, and Teni the Entertainer.
Afrobeat is deeply rooted in West African culture. It has a fuji music mixed with American funk and jazz type of style, with focus on the precussion or ‘beat’, giving it the name Afrobeat. This music style is more urban making it popular among party-goers. The vibe makes you want to dance; you might even jam to some of the songs on your way to work!
A top Afrobeat song of 2019 is “Risky” by Afrobeat artist Davido and Dancehall artist Popcaan, giving the song a more Afro-Caribbean style. The music video for this song is posted below. We hope you enjoy!
