#BringBackOurGirls: 83 Chibok Students Released by Boko Haram

Slowly, surely, more of the 276 school girls kidnapped by terror group Boko Haram are finding their way out of captivity.

The Associated Press reports that Nigeria’s government confirms that 82 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls have been released and are expected to meet President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in the capital, Abuja.

President Buhari’s office tweeted the first official confirmation of the release on Saturday.

The young ladies reportedly have been released in exchange for jailed Boko Haram members.

The government says the Swiss government and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in addition to various NGOs helped in negotiations with the extremist group.

In 2014, advocates around the world including then-First Lady Michelle Obama rallied for the kidnapped girls with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.
